Meeting was held on 2 September at 10:45 am at the Community Centre.



No changes to Minutes of last meeting



The Treasurer’s Report was read by Ruth Tomlin. The Pig Roast made a profit of approximately $2,000, the Bake Sale raised $570, Euchres (for June, July & August) raised over $1,000 and the Fireworks actually showed a profit of $18.13.



Membership Report: Ken Meagher reported that we now had 51 paid-up members.



Old Business:

  1. Insurance: Association Liability - $491; Community Centre - $781; PAL Insurance - $150.

  2. Pike Bay Community Park –Tables were repaired and three had to be scraped. New volleyball net was purchased and installed at the beginning of the summer.

  3. Fireworks were a success again this year with a larger crowd than usual. Thanks to everyone who helped. Special thanks to Ron and Mae Partridge for their generous donation.

  4. The Bake Sale raised $570 this year. Thanks to everyone who helped.

  5. Pig Roast – dinner tickets were sold out again and it was another successful evening despite the cooler weather. Kathy Campbell and Karen Sword had words of praise for the ladies (namely Phyllis Bain and Donna Oke) who have looked after the food for the pig roast for many many years. Kathy and Karen (with advice and assistance from Phyllis and Donna) have taken over this onerous task. Thanks to Terry Bernard and Colleen Crowe for donating prizes for the draw.



New Business:

  1. Fireworks: will be held on Saturday, June 28th, 2008, with a rain date of June 29th. Greg Foster will be asked to light the fireworks again. Donna Oke moved that we order $700 worth of fireworks, seconded by Ken Meagher, approved.

  2. Bake Sale: To be held Saturday, August 2nd, 2008 at Donna Oke’s place.

  3. Pig Roast: to be held Saturday, August 9th, 2008 at By the Bay. Karen Sword will look for a suitable first prize for the draw and we will be looking for a second and third prize as well. Helen McIntyre (with assistance from James Hildgendorff) will print the draw tickets and Ken Meagher will co-ordinate the distribution and selling of the tickets.
    Cost of meal tickets will be raised to $12 for adults and $6 for children. Greg Foster will be asked to print the tickets. Drink tickets will remain at $3.00.
    Helen McIntyre will order the Port-a-Potties.
    We need to find a volunteer to organize and run the children’s games.

  4. Grass Cutting: Donna Oke said that she would continue to be responsible for the grass cutting for the remainder of the year.

  5. Membership: Anyone who has not paid their 2007 Membership fees should do so now. Please send to: Ken Meagher at RR#1, Mar, Ontario, N0H 1X0. You will find a form at the end of these minutes.

  6. Elections: Officers will remain the same.

  7. Highway Signs: Karen Sword requested that we re-open the discussion regarding the “Visit Pike Bay” highway signs. At the May meeting, it was agreed that the Community Association would take over the cost, administration and maintenance of these signs. Karen feels we should not take on the responsibility of the signs and if the businesses in Pike Bay are not interested in looking after the signs, they should be removed. After a lengthy discussion, Karen moved that we rescind the decision made at the May meeting; Glen Cameron seconded the motion, approved.

  8. New Chairs – Ruth Tomlin made a motion to purchase much needed new chairs for the Community Centre. She moved that $1,500 be approved for this purchase (50 chairs at $30). Seconded by Albert van Mourik, approved. Note: new chairs have now been purchased and should be delivered before the end of September.
