Meeting was held on 30 August 2009 at 10:45 am at the Community Centre.


Rick Nolk moved that we donate $100.00 to this year’s By The Bay’s Fishing Derby. Peter Osborne seconded the motion. Approved.


Rick Nolk and Helen McIntyre resigned as President and Secretary, respectively, of the Association. Meg Smith agreed to take over the position of Secretary and Karen Sword will be asked to become President. Karen has decided not to take on this responsibility as she has too many other obligations at this time so we need a new President!


Helen McIntyre moved that the Minutes of last meeting be accepted as presented. Seconded by Ken Meagher. Approved


Marg Meagher gave the Treasurer’s Report. Current bank balance is $8,351.94. Profit from Fireworks - $33.45; Bake Sale - $666.50; Euchre - $1146.50 (to Aug. 24); Pig Roast - $1,733.68. Marg moved that the report be approved as read. Seconded by Moe Ready. Approved.


Membership Report: Ken Meagher reported that there are 61 paid-up members. Ken also noted that the sale of draw tickets at the Pig Roast netted a profit of $218.65.


Community Centre: Euchre games are being held on Monday evenings and have been well attended. Thanks to Margaret Howes for donating an oscillating fan for the Community Centre and also thanks to Patricia Howes as we are still using the heating oil that she donated a few years ago.


Insurance: Coverages will remain unchanged.


Grass Cutting: To date, Dave Marshall has submitted one bill for grass cutting in the amount of $800.00. Subsequent to the meeting, Dave submitted another bill for $200.00 for a total of $1,000 for the year’s grass cutting. Marg Meagher suggested to Dave that he attend the spring meeting and present his estimate for 2010 grass cutting.


Pike Bay Community Park: Three picnic tables were repaired at the beginning of the summer (need to use bolts and nuts, not nails). We did request the donation of picnic tables from the Municipality and this needs to be followed up. One of the toilet seats needs to be replaced and this will be done in the spring. The Municipality will be asked to pump out the sewage tank.


Fireworks/Bake Sale/Pig Roast;

This year’s fireworks were a success and showed a $33 profit. Thanks again to Jack and Jackie Seatter for taking responsibility for this event and to everyone else who assisted. Thank you to Brad & Laura Hazzard for their contribution to the fireworks and also to Ron and May Patridge. Thanks also to Mary Cumming for providing the “tubes” for the lighting of the fireworks.

The Bake Sale was also successful and made a profit of over $600. Thanks to everyone who helped out this year and a special thanks to everyone who contributed baked goods. Also thank you to Donna Oke for letting us use her garage again.

The Pig Roast was also successful and the dinner was sold out again. Thanks to everyone who assisted with this event. A special thanks to all the volunteers who prepared and served the meal, to Tracey Marques for organizing the children’s games, to Don Edgar for hosting the talent show, to Everatt Gray for his cash donation towards the cost of the band, and to Terry Bernard for contributing the second prize for our draw.


New Business:

  1. Fireworks: will be held on Saturday, July 3rd, 2010, with a rain date of July 4th. Peter Garland will be asked to light the fireworks again and, hopefully, Jack Seatter will volunteer to oversee this event. Marg Meagher moved that we approve $700 for the fireworks, seconded by Patricia Howes, approved. Helen Stewart volunteered to look after the donation jars and collection of donations at the firework.

  2. Bake Sale: To be held Saturday, July 31st, 2010 at Donna Oke’s place. Margaret Howes and Helen McIntyre will oversee the bake sale.

  3. Pig Roast: to be held Saturday, August 14th, 2010 at By the Bay. We need to ask Brad and Laura for permission to use their park again. Karen Sword will be asked to look after the purchase of the main prize for the draw which will be valued at approximately $300. Terry Bernard has offered to supply a second prize again for 2010. Helen McIntyre (with assistance from James Hilgendorff) will print the draw tickets and Ken & Marg Meagher will look after the distribution.
    Ken Meagher moved that the cost of the meal tickets be increased to $13.00 for adults and $6.50 for children. Seconded by Helen Stewart. Helen Stewart moved that the age for children’s tickets be lowered to 10 years and under, seconded by Ruth Tomlin. Approved. We will ask Laura Hazzard to print the tickets again.
    Helen McIntyre will order the “port-a-potties”.
    Drink tickets will be $3.00 each.
    Tracey Marques will be asked to arrange the children’s games again.
    PAL Insurance required and shouldn’t exceed $150.00.
    Rick Nolk moved that we approved $500 for the band to provided music for the evening. Seconded by Peter Osborne. Approved.
    Bar & Bartenders - Moe Ready agreed to assist with the bar set up and serving.

  1. Membership: Anyone who has not paid their Membership fees should do so now. Please send to: Ken Meagher at RR#1, Mar, Ontario, N0H 1X0. You will find a form at the end of these minutes. Fees remain at $10.00.

  2. Year-round Use of the Community Centre: Jim Howes moved that we investigate the possibility of using the community centre on a “year-round basis”. Seconded by Ross Lehman. Approved. Things that need to be considered: heating, electrical, water, snow blowing. Dave Uren will be asked to give us an estimate of work required and cost involved in updating the electrical wiring in the building.

  3. Peter Osborne spoke on behalf of the Whiskey Harbour Recreation Association and brought us up-to-date on the legal proceedings concerning the “Rock”. Peter asked the PBCA for a donation to the WHRA. Rick Nolk moved that we donate $500, seconded by Margaret Howes. Ruth Tomlin appended the motion to increase the donation to $750, seconded by Helen Stewart, Approved.

  4. Rick Nolk made a motion to donate $100 to Brad Hazzard’s 2010 By the Bay Fishing Derby. Seconded by Meg Smith. Approved.
